Prefrontal Story
The track is written about the ancient procedure referred to as a "prefrontal lobotomy", where a crude instrument such as an icepick was inserted into the prefrontal lobe of a patient's brain who was considered violent and delusional in an effort to calm them permanently, essentially causing brain damage. The patients were pretty much vegetables after this procedure, and in their new convenient condition, were usually contained in a psych ward for the rest of their days. Although far more humane, you may also consider this track a commentary on contemporary psychotherapeutic drugs such as prozac, etc. which can sometimes render the patient comparatively emotionless.
Rare fact: This track was originally written in 1997 for my pre-Chiasm project, Electrophoretic Transfer, and was recently reworked in 2006 for this ep. It's one I've been wanting to do for a long time. While writing the song, I was in graduate school for neurobiology (i work with molecular biology now) and was intrigued by brain surgery techniques. Apparently there are no pain receptors in the brain, so the patient wouldn't feel anything beneath the skull line, but I don't think i'd want to be conscious with my skull open, anyhow.. :) The track now exists in several parts, or different "moods" of the song itself, as well as a remix by labelmate Carphax Files, he has named the "crying mix". Be sure to check out the official release this Spring 2006 on iTunes, and extra mixes can be found on the Chiasm MySpace site.

PREFRONTAL LYRICS:
Icepick in your brain/Stick it in/I can hear it ripping/Flesh tears so quick/Make your life a sweet happy silence/Open up your eyes and you'll see/Soon it will be over/Won't feel a thing/'Cause inside there's no pain receptors
You can't change my mind/ You can't make me heal/You can't make me happy/I want to feel what's real/
They tell me to erase these feelings I embrace/They hide inside my mind/I hear them speak inside of me/You can't make me change my mind
Thanks to Shane Terpening, Arthur Weimann, Count 0, Dave Cagle, and the Reverend Baldknobber for being there.
